The emergency lighting and guidance systems are one of the most important processes that ensure the vital safety of human life in fire, earthquake and similar situations.
WHAT IS EMERGENCY LIGHTING AND GUIDANCE SYSTEMS?
Emergency lighting system is the systems and devices that is automatically put into use for the reasons of power failure at city network or in a similar case; in order to cut the power for the safety reason of building or structure in a situations like fire and earthquake and in the event of cutting the normal lighting because of the opening of an circuit breaker or fuse.
WHERE THE EMERGENCY LIGHTING AND GUIDANCE SYSTEMS SHALL BE APPLIED?
An emergency lighting system should be established to all buildings open to public classified below except little housings (maximum three-storey detached dwellings except basement floor, twin houses, row houses and similar special houses).
1- Housings
It is the housings that are specified outside of the scope of small houses that are used for the purpose of sheltering and have sections for sleeping.

2- The Buildings for the purpose of convention
The buildings for the purpose of gathering cover all the buildings which 50 or more people can come together for the reasons such as; accommodation, ceremony, worship, recreation, eating, drinking, transportation and vehicle waiting etc. or the sections of these kinds of buildings that are used for this purpose. The sections of any buildings which are used for the purpose of gathering people together but appropriate for the gathering of less than 50 people shall be subject to the usage classification of the main building.
1- Accommodation Facilities: The places where the accommodation service or one or some of the services like food, entertainment and shows, animations with accommodation service facilities are presented. Hotels, motels, thermal plants, resorts, hostels, campings, student dormitories, camps and similar places shall enter this classification.
2- Wining and Dining Facilities: It covers the places where food and related services are presented. Coffeehouses, cafes, patisseries, restaurants, bakeries, bagel bakeries and similar places shall enter this classification.
3- Recreation Areas: It covers the places where the entertainment service is given. Cinemas, theaters, Sinemalar, tiyatrolar, pavilions, casinos, taverns, bars, cocktail lounches, night clups, discos, weddings and wedding halls and similar places shall enter this classification.
4- Museums and Exhibition Areas: It covers the places where the art and science works are kept and exhibited. Museums, exhibition areas, auction places, fairs and similar places shall enter this classification.
5- Places of worship and Sports Areas: Places of worship such as;
Mosques, churches, synagogues etc. with indoor and outdoor sports areas
and similar places shall enter this classification.
6- Terminals, Train Stations, Airports and Ports: The places where the related vehicles are loaded and unloaded the bulks and passengers.
3- Institutional Buildings
Educational facilities, health service organizations and prisons and detention houses shall enter this scope.
1- Educational Facilities: These are the places where the education and training activities are carried out. Primary and secondary schools, kindergartens, nurseries, children clups, private educational institutions, private establishments for preparing students for various exams, libraries, orphanages and boarding schools, higher education institutions and similar places shall enter this classification.
2- Buildings for Health Services: Hospitals, nursing homes, huzurevleri, child care and rehabilitation centers, dispensaries, health centers, private clinics, nurseries, diagnostic and treatment centers, medical laboratuaries and similar places shall enter this classification.
3- The open sections of jail, prison, reformatory and detention centers for the publicity.
4- The Buildings for commercial purpose
The buildings for commercial purpose are the buildings that food, clothing and other needed items are sold as wholesale and retail. Offices, warehouses and sections for the purpose of serving which are used in connection with the sale of merchandise and located in the same building shall enter to buildings for the commercial use classification. The sections for small trade purpose which are mainly located in a building classified as a different usage shall be subject to the main usage classification of the building.

5- Office Buildings
The office buildings are the buildings where all kinds of office services (except the works enter into the scope of the buildings fro the commercial purpose) carried out, accounting and recording operations and similar works are done. The sections used for office services in another building shall be subject to the main building usage classification.

6- Industrial Plants
An industrial plant cover the buildings and structures which are pertained to the operations such as; processing, assembling, mixing, cleaning, washing, packaging, storage, distribution and repair operations etc. and the factories where all kinds of products are made.

7- Storage – Purpose Facilities
The storage – purpose facilities cover any kinds of buildings and structures which are used for storage and protection of all kinds of goods, products, vehicles and animals. The sections which are smaller than 50 m2 located in another building are accepted as a part of the main building. An emergency lighting is not necessarily required for the storage facilities that have no people inside.
1- Warehouses: These are the places where the need materials are being kept for being used when necessary. These places cover silos, tank farms, warehouses, printing presses, storages, barns, staple houses, goods trust and protection places, archives and similar places.
